Smart Batteries and Meters

Our batteries are intelligent. They can store power from easy to install Photovolatic panels or charge from the AC mains off-peak at low tariff times by communicating with smart meters. The battery management system learns about daily usage, likely solar resources based on weather, and are optimized for tariff or other savings or use goals.

The batteries are also deep cycle LiFE chemistry,  Electric Vehicle quality batteries, so have much better performance in terms of life span (over 6000 cycles), depth of discharge, and don't need maintenance, so are ideal for domestic use.

During the summer more energy will come from PV panels, whereas when the weather is poor or in winter, more energy will come from night storage, and the mains will also act as back-up. This means systems will work seemlessly all year round, trying to minimize energy costs, but also reliably to ensure you always have power when you need it.

The system can also be combined with off-grid systems, such as generators, so you could always use a generator for other household activities (e.g. washing/cooking), and at the same time charge up batteries, providing energy over the day for lower energy needs such as computing, lighting, gadgets and electronics. This also avoids the carbon or hassle of turning on a generator just to charge your phone, ipod or run lighting.

The battery management system can also be configured to provide some services for network or utility operators, such as the ability to trigger mains charging or switch to battery use, at times of peak demand issues or excess local supply. This can also generate grant or credits under various schemes, as helps in scale reduce national production and network infrastructure.
